David Roy joined the team as a part-time retinal screener in 2002 and joined the centre as a full time employee in June 2006. He previously worked as a clinical specialist photographer for the trust from 1994-2006, when he became principal retinal screener for Birmingham Heartlands Hospital.

David is responsible for the screening clinics at Heartlands Hospital, ensuring that screeners are qualified and confident in their work. He has also taken a major role in training optometrists involved in the Birmingham and Black Country Diabetic Retinopathy Screening service in their digital photography skills.
David is lead for clinical governance, a role which includes the monitoring of clinical risks, incidents and significant events for the BBC scheme.
