The courses are held in a dedicated screening centre, with an impressive technology suite fully equipped with state of the art audio visual projection set up, with numerous 21 inch flat panel monitor dedicated grading stations.
As an experienced screening centre the bank of images available is second to none, allowing a broad range of images of mild retinopathy through the various stages to end stage retinopathy. The course is run by an experienced team, with many guest speakers, all experts in their own fields.
3/4 Day Course:
12 - 15th May 2008
15th - 18th September 2008
1st - 4th December 2008

This course is aimed at all individuals interested in retinal screening from screeners, nurses and HCAs to clinicans.
Topics covered on the course include:
- Basic diabetes and ophthalmology (day 1)
- UK national grading system
- Basic and complex retinopathy identification
- National programme, principles and processes
- Other ophthalmic conditions
- Basic fundus camera skill
- Grading quizzes
- Communication skills
The course covers all major aspects found in the City and Guilds NVQ Certificate for retinopathy screening and is an excellent basis to begin work as a screener/grader.
Some IT skills are necessary to enable completion of the course.
The course is held for 4 days. The 1st day is most suitable for Medical Photographers, HCA’s, Nurses who are not specialists in ophthalmic or diabetes nursing, retinal screeners who have no medical background, Diabetes Retinal Screening Coordinators. (Optometrists or clinicians need only attend last 3 days only)

2 Day Masterclass Course:
The 2 Day Masterclass Course is more suitable to experienced graders, preferably who have been on our 3/4 day course. Graders should have been secondary grading for more than 2 years. The 2nd day of the course will be applicable to tertiary graders.
Content of these days will include:
- Updates in diabetes, the national programme and the certificate in retinal screening
- A mock tertiary grading session
- Hints and tips regarding other lesions
- More tricky grading! And much more
